The Maze Runner Trilogy- James Dashner

When Thomas wakes up, the only thing he recalls is his first name. He remembers nothing of his past and he’s in an unrecognizable place surrounded by strangers. Thomas soon learns that this place is called the Glade. A field enclosed in stone walls surrounded by a maze that changes itself every 24 hours. Giant beasts roam the maze at night and kill anyone who gets left in the maze overnight. Just as Thomas gets adjusted to life in the Glade, everything starts changing. The maze might just be a clue in comprehending a much larger maze, and in doing so, freeing everyone in the Glade. But sending them where and at what price?

I loved this trilogy. I actually got the pleasure of meeting James Dashner at a book signing and he is really nice in person. These books get you thinking about our future and get your mind reeling. (The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure)

The Hunger Games Trilogy- Suzanne Collins

The population of Panem is divided into 12 districts. Katniss Everdeen is stuck in district 12- the poorest of them all. Katniss Everdeen became responsible for her younger sister and sick mother when her father died in a mining incident. The Capitol is in complete control over the districts. They maintain this control by making sure that the districts fear them. This fear is brought by The Hunger Games- Annual games that children from the districts are forced to “play” in. The Capitol puts on the games every year as a reminder of the uprising that happened long ago. The children are forced to kill each other until only one is left. That solo survivor is the winner. This means that every year 23 innocent 11-18 year olds die. The only way for the districts to gain power is to succed in an uprising. Katniss is forced to put her life on the line for strangers- for the sake of her sister, Prim. She gains power and friends- but at what price? When you could lose everything, at any moment, how far would you go to win?

There are three books in this series. ( The Huger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay) Of course, I couldn’t say much about the other two without giving something away. This is definitely my favorite series. When Will Grayson and Will Grayson meet…

This is the story of two strangers who have more in common then they thought.

Will Grayson, a straight guy who’s looking for love. He’s unsure of himself, and of everyone around him. He’s just trying to survive high school- by using a few “rules” he’s constructed- and figure out his place in the world like every other teen.

Will Grayson, a gay guy who’s looking for love. His friends have lied to him, his true love is non existent, he is very depressed and cynical. He’s just trying to survive high school and figure out his place in the world like every other teen.

Their two completely different lives will collide…

Why does everyone assume that if you’re not straight you’re wrong? Hopefully this book will change minds and teach you that love is love.

A: John Green- an amazing writer who I obviously think highly of. David Levithan- a spectacular writer who i hadn’t had much experience with before this book. Levithan gets you right into the mind of a depressed, gay teenager with trust issues and a secret loneliness he won’t admit to anyone else. John Green does the same. Both writers are very good at expressing the emotions of the characters and did a wonderful collaboration.

Alice is known as the cute little girl who lives with her father, Ray. Alice always looks so happy. But no one knows that Alice, is not Alice.

Alice was abducted years ago. Alice isn’t the first Alice. She lives alone in fear of her abductor, Ray. Alice dreams of going home, but knows that Ray would catch her if she tried to escape. One day, Ray decides that he needs another little girl. Alice could teach her how to behave and do as shes told. Ray tells Alice to go to the park to look for a girl for him. Alice provides the details he needs to take another girl. Alice is happy. She won’t have to be alone anymore. And then it all hits her. There were girls before her. Innocent girls like her that aren’t around anymore. She knows that Ray wouldn’t risk having two girls with him at once. But then again. Ray said he loves her. And he meant it, right?

K: This. book. is. woah. Not many books make me cry; this one did. Goodness, i loved it though. Being told from the point of view of Alice, you’re put in her place. You feel the fear and loneliness. The anxiousness, and the need to be free.

A: This book also shows how Alice’s mind gets twisted by Ray to make herself think in ways that she wouldn’t. An overall great book that messes with your emotions.

ahh. Good books… Okay. So this book got a lot of attention for many reasons; 1. Its based on a true story. 2. It’s told from the perspective of a five year old. 3. It’s amazing and clever and good.

A new light is shed on the story as it’s told from the point of view of a five year old. A five year old named Jack, who doesn’t always understand. Who is energetic and creative. Who is childish as children should be. Who has only known life inside a small shed. Whose mother was abducted and raped, in which he was the product. Who knows nothing of the outside world. Only that a man named Nick lives there. That Nick is mean, and should not be talked to. Who loves his mom and no one else.

When there is an issue in someones life, there’s certain steps that everyone goes through in order to deal with it. There is the initial shock and sadness. Then there’s denial and more sadness. Then there is a time when you realize that something must be done. Something must change, and a solution must be found. Sometimes, shock and denial last a long time. And when Jack’s mom comes to the realization that she can no longer live this life, drastic measures must be taken. And their lives will be at great risk, and will never be the same.

K: Room is sad and funny and creative and good. It’s not a book entirely about the sadness that the family goes through. This book is about the renewal of life. About starting over, and being free. Have you ever listened to a five year old tell a story? When a child tells a story, they use the only information they know- which isn’t very much. They usually say things wrong, and misinterpret things. Imagine a five year old telling his own version of a heart breaking story like this. Now stop imagining and read the book.

Freshman year is hard. Especially when you’re alone. Especially when not only you’re alone, but you’re alone and everyone else hates you. Well, that’s Melinda’s situation. The only one who relates to her is her art teacher Mr. Freeman. She used to have friends, until the end of 8th grade summer. There was a party- and she ended up calling the cops. In seconds, all the “friends” she had were gone. Melinda never told her parents- or her friends- why she called 911. And she promises herself to lock that secret away. When she reaches the end, will she break? Or will she finally find the courage to speak?

(K)I loved loved loved this book. I liked the style in which it was written, i liked the characters, and the conflicts. My only downfall was the predictability of it. Not much was surprising to me. Maybe i read to much- never mind. That’s no possible.

(A) This book may have been predictable, but it shows the chilling truth of people who are really, truly alone. Of secrets.

I really like this book and this author. You might have heard of the very popular Speak, which was also written by Anderson (review coming soon!) I like Anderson’s writing style. She gives you the character’s thoughts in the form of facts its a helpful insider and i like it a lot lot lot.
